I got an old 8lb can of winchester 231 and was wondering if i could load 12 gauge shells 7 1/2 with it?

No. 231 is a pistol powder. Its in high demand right now though so you shouldn't have any problem either selling it or trading it for some shotgun powder.

whoa, Winchester 231 is definitely a rare powder right now. I think this will be the powder I will look for next after I run out of 1Lb Bullseye and 8lbs Clays.

Yes they will. It's probably still good. 70 year old ammo fires quite nicely.

Ya that's true. I popped the seal on it today and took a couple of grains out and burned it. It lit right up and burned very clean

no im sorry, i normaly use 700-x for my pistol loads but now im gonna use the 231 for pistol and 700 for the shotgun but i will save your user name and if anything changes i will pm you first.

Yup that's the can except mine is flat on top I think because its an 8 pounder

Yeah, those vintage cans look cool. The modern plastic gunpowder containers remind me of boring automotive oil containers.
