    reoading 223 problem?

age old question that has been beaten to death but has anyone that reloads 223 for ar15 platform ever have to use both full length die and neck sizing die? im getting a failure to feed and stays at half battery on a full mag, but if the mag is empty and i load it one by one from the ejection port i get into full battery and i am able to eject that live round.

What length are you trimming to after sizing? Happen with different mags as well?

      Are you full length sizing?

Sounds like a mag problem, drop your brass in a case gauge

So the round chambers fine single shot but not from mag. I had seen issue. Problem was the mag. Is it a 10- 20 or a 10-30 blocked with a rivet on one side? If so unevev spring compression.

I have a 10-30 Pmag that forcefully will take 10 and jams if I put 9 rounds in it works perfect with my reloads .

An answer to your other question, always full length size brass for an autoloader. Do not neck only size.

Clearly a mag problem if it works with 9 and jams with 10. The problem with 10 round mag is that it suddenly becomes an "illegal evil high capacity assault clip" if you can forcibly cram an 11th round in the mag so they make them to barely fit 10 and there is usually no margin.

I haven't trim any of my brass but i am loading brass that are 1.758 or lower and setting OAL at 2.209 max and i was only using the full length die.. i also did try another mag and same problem...... so i just made about 50rnds but this time i FL and neck size them also going to the range tomorrow to see how they run. and i dont have a case gage seems every one out of stock but gonna have to put an order in for one. im thinking im gonna have to get a short base die if im stil getting problems (maybe im not getting the shoulder head spacing right with full size dies and my full size die is touching the shell holder now)

                  when you full length resize
is the handle kind of camming over at the bottom of the styou may have a head space problem.

do you mean they are getting stuck in the magazine? do they not load from the magazine at all?

it pushes the round out of the mag but does not go into full battery and gets jam in that position but if i get that same round that got jam and leave the mag empty and feed it into the chamber then rack the bolt forwarded either with the charging handle or bolt catch release it goes into full battery and will fire and eject fine.

i pretty much have the die set up on the press to where the ram is all the way up and the die is touching the shell plate and i cant adjust it anymore. and i dont have a case gage to check if maybe my die is a pos and is not sizing the shoulder enough.

The die you have has to be adjusted to the correct headspace length. It is usually done by screwing it in further to push the neck back, or screwed out to not push it as far back. Your dies should have came with directions from the manufacturer. I highly recommend a case gauge for at least setting up the die. Another way I have read about people doing it is by taking the rifle you plan on shooting it out of and dropping the case into the barrel. It should tell you if it is going to fit or not. I however prefer a case gauge.

This is the one I have. There is one left in stock as of this posting. Make sure you click the "check availability" to make sure it still says 1 left in stock.

The old GI 20's we were taught to load 19 if that didn't work load 18. Also try another mag & reduce the #.

                              sounds like a mag problem.

since you can single load it into the chamber and fire it it's got nothing to do with headpsace
