Should I ship or sell my ammo?

I'm moving to North Carolina next month and the moving company can not take my ammunition. So what to do?

I really don't want to sell considering the ammo shortage that is going on. I haven't taken inventory in some time but I have around 2000 rounds of surplus 7.62x51, another 1000 rounds of .308 (mostly American Eagle, PMC Bronze, etc. no match grade or anything like that). 420 rounds of 5.56 (xm855 in ammo can) and another 500 American Eagle and 500 gun show reloads. Also have a wide mix of .45 ACP ranging from gun show reloads to Ranger hollow points.

Should I sell it all or try to ship it? If I ship it, does anyone know what is involved or if it's even possible?

    Thanks

You'll have to ship via UPS/fedex ground and they have to know it's ammo. Could be spendy depending on the weight. I would weigh it and call UPS for prices (you may need to break it up into seperate shipments as I don't know about the maximum weight rule).
Laws and common sense is all up to interpretation to us humans... and guess what? Humans suck.

+1 Ship through UPS/FedEx and tape a few of these labels on your package.

        From http://forums.thecmp.org/showpost.ph...1&postcount=10.

        New Limited Quantity Labels
Use these Limited Quantity labels when shipping limited quantities of dangerous goods. Labels that include the "Y" symbol must be used when shipping limited quantities by air. Blank labels without the "Y" symbol must be used when shipping limited quantities by water or ground. Use the tabbed labels when a proper shipping name is required to be on the package of limited quantities. 100mm x 100mm Limited Quantity Shipping Labels are required for most shipments, and 50mm x 50mm labels may be used when the package is too small to hold the full-size label.

Just use the label posted above and ship it UPS ground. FedEx can be hit or miss when shipping anything ORM-D.

Sharpen your pencil? cost to ship vs renting a uhaul trailer? Are you going to replenish said ammo if you sell? That could cost you more? Good fortune to you in the move to a free state.

I'd just put in in a box and label it "rocks" for the moving company.

If you have a UPS hub close to you, stop by (I've never been able to get a phone number for the local hub-always a general 800 C.S.#) and ask what the max weight allowance per box for ammo. It used to be 66 lbs.
You may not like guns, and choose not to own one. That is your right. You might not believe in God. That is your choice. However, if someone breaks into your home, the first two things you're going to do are, 1) Call someone with a gun, 2) Pray they get there in time.

Doesn't work that way. The shipping company takes inventory of everything and they have to do the packing of everything they're transporting.
I may be moving across the country soon so I've been dealing with relocation coordinators and companies.
My ammo is also on my mind...I'm going to sell all my factory new ammo and shoot all my reloads. I can always buy more once I get there. When I did the math, it wasn't worth the cost of shipping it.
Worst case...I'll get to reloading once I'm settled.

I would drive one car with guns and ammo. Yeah, it's a long drive, but it keeps the important stuff in your possession.

LOL. That's too much work to take my ammo with me but I like where your head is at.
