    Spitzers in a .30-30 & velocity?

I have a Stevens model 325, a bolt action 30-30 with a box magazine. I've been thinking of loading up some ammo with 168 grain noslers for hunting. I don't have a chronograph, would the velocity gain be very significant or not so much? I live and hunt in a densely wooded area, might just stick with the tried and true 170 grain flat soft points.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I think with the ability to load spitzer bullets you have the ability to get the max out of that cartridge. Why not try 150's for a boost in velocity?

Any velocity gain will be at extended distances (higher BC = less velocity scrubbed over time/distance). Chrono isn't going to tell you anything other than muzzle velocity. The rest is available in charts or math.

Spitzers are more for distance than velocity. They will simply maintain velocity better at distance.

The typical flat tip bullet is awesome for hunting, i would prefer a flat tip buletts for game within 300 yards. Anything further than that and youd be better off with a different cartridge

Use 150gr 30-30 bullets or the Hornady Flex-tip. The reason is thay are DESIGNED to expand at the 30-30 speeds. Using another bullet(spire-point type) would not help much due to the design needing higher speeds to expand well than what the 30-30 can do.
I use 30-30 bullets for reduced loads for hunting in 308/30-06 cartridges for people who cannot handle the recoil. Usually a lady or young hunter. The 30-30 bullets perform better.
The only other bullet I would suggest would be the Nosler BT bullet in 125 or 150 grain as they are a lighter constructed bullet and would give you some expansion at higher 30-30 speeds up close.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
