    magnum primers

OK about to load some .44 magnum for a Blackhawk. All of my load manuals call for regular large pistol primers. All I have are large magnum pistol primers. Is it ok to substitute them. I realize I will have to start back at the start loads and work up from there. Thanks

Like you said "start back at the start loads and work up from there". Not knowing what powder you are using makes it hard to say, but slower powders are better matched with Mag primers so all the powder is burned(you use more powder).

Unique and 2400 are powders I use on a regular basis along with 296 for 44mag. I have used Mag primers for all of them, but for Unique and 2400, I did not go to max powder charges (especially Unique, I use if for a light load).

Thanks mbkmkk I was planning on using the Unique for light plinkers anyway. If I want magnum performance I will use a slower powder.
