Purchased a RCBS xdie sizing die for .223. The rod that has the expander and decapping pin. I cant for the life of me figure out how to remove the decapping pin from the stem. There is no knurl to unscrew on the bottom. Can anyone explain it to me like i am 7 years old how I can remove the pin without cutting it? I want to only size and still want to use the mandrel and expander but will deprime with my lee universal decapping die. Thanks!

the only thing I can think of is to set the pin up where it wont punch out the primer but still expand the mouth....

Here's an RCBS rod and pin from a non-xdie die. I've never had to swap a decapping pin, but assume that you hold the rod and twist the knurled bell-shaped cap. Maybe someone can confirm this ?

Below is a one piece rod and pin for a Lee Universal decapping die. In this case there is no knurling at the base as it is a one piece unit and must be replaced as such.

Just found this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sjeJDBnKWg
OK. Just tried to remove the decapping pin from my RCBS as shown in the first image above and it will not budge when I try it with my hands. Time for some tools, oil and maybe some heat ?Comment

The instructions are online - http://www.rcbs.com/downloads/instru...structions.pdf - and seems to show a knurled bell. Best for OP to post images though.

First time I removed mine, I had to use two pliers. After applying some oil, I can do it now with my fingers.Just found this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sjeJDBnKWg

BTW if you ever break a decapper pin contact RCBS CS.
I had a primer misfeed that caused a 308 case to not seat correctly under the die. The decapper pin hit the lip of the case and bent. RCBS CS sent me a pack of 5 pins when I enquired via the web page what the part # to order was for the replacements. Very nice of them.
I too have switched to using the Lee Universal depriming die but will keep a decapping pin in the sizing die just in case a primed case slips through. Belt and braces approach.Comment
