Trimming .223 brass

I am setting up my Dillon trimmer. My Lyman book says the length is at 1.760. What is the minimum and maximum length the casing could be?

I tend to trim on the short side as well, just so i dont have to trim again for a while.

So I ran a test group through, 1.745ish on the average. But I looked over the trimmed casings and like maybe 20% still had small shaving or burr un them. I tossed all of them into my Dillon polisher to see if it will remove the small bits of brass.

Is this normal? Do I need to deburr all the brass still?

I use a powered RCBS unit that chamfers inside and out -- keeps the case from scoring the bullet when seating.

I always chamber and deburr, even when loading boat tailed bullets.

+1 on chamfer and debur, Dillon does a really square mouth trim. Rough on jackets even with boat-tails.

I use a carbide exspander ball to smooth out the burs. I mount it on the last station of my dillon. Works great and it's fast.

I always thought 1.750 was the minimum since the book called it the "trim to length." I'm glad its 1.740 because I accidentally trimmed about 300 pieces of brass to 1.745.

1.740 is minimum length. 1.750 is "trim to" length. 1.760 is considered max or spec length, but depending on your chamber, longer may be safe to not have to trim, may not.

Hey Zamble. You should make a video of how you are processing your brass. I have my 1050 and RT1200 trimmer coming on Tuesday. I would like to see how you are doing it. I have about 5k LC brass cases to process.
