    Case head separation?

So i'm about to reload some IK stamped brass. As i remember it's Yugo surplus stuff. I've tumbled and washed it off so far. I have not sized it yet, so these aren't sizing marks.

I'm inspecting it and am wondering if it is safe to reload. Of the entire batch, there are no cracks and i have not seen any berms or bumps inside of the cases that i've looked/feld in.

Obviously, there is about a 1/8" ring around the base of the cases. Is this the start of case separation?

On some, there are striations around the perimeter of the mouth that extend length wise toward the head. I'm assuming this brass is from a machine gun or something.
Also, all of the cases do not fit well in my RCBS shell holder. It is difficult to get them in/out. On my Lee case holder, in/out is not a prob.
In addition, there are these ding marks on the head of the cases. Maybe from the brass melting?

My cases similar to the ones in this other guy's thread:

    Here are mine:

Think this stuff is safe to reload for my bolt gun? I just want to have some safe, reasonably priced fun with my new rifle.

They look OK to me... the rub marks are right where the casehead cup is. Separations usually occur just above that.

If your brass was from a semi-auto or machine gun then the case head is probably swelled a little more that you would get from a bolt gun. Too the rims may be tweaked on ejection accounting for your difficulty inserting them into your shell holder.

Use some imperial sizing wax and FL size them and they should be fine thereafter.

I don't see any rings. That first part of the base looks shinier than the rest, but that looks more like the byproduct of how the case rubs against the die body and/or your chamber as opposed to the ring forming from case separation. That very bottom of the base rarely gets touched by the sizing die.

This is what a case head separation tends to look like out of an AR:

Sometimes they'll form maybe a little lower than where you see in that picture.

Hmm, had no idea a rifle could make such ring marks on the brass. I'll reload it and see what comes of this.
I'll just use this stuff as range fodder.

        Thx again for the help!!
