Blue Dot for 9mm and 45ACP

I see myself running low on 231, but have plenty of Blue Dot sitting here.

I was thinking of doing some test loads with the Blue Dot and some Xtreme 115 HP. Also want to use it for 45ACP with Xtreme 185gr flat points.

I have data from Lyman 48 and 49, but want to hear your experience with the combo of Blue Dot/9mm and 45ACP.

Also I have some SPM primers that I want to use since my SPP are running low I was thinking I would start with the lowest charge I can see that's published, which is from Lyman, or should I drop down a bit from that with the SPM?

I did do a search and saw some prior input from Bill Steele.

I have used it with 9mm ,115gr jhp, 8.5 gr blue dot max with cci spp
and do as Bill said and droop it down and work up your own load

I guess you already have my input, but will reiterate my endorsement for 9mm and BD, I like it. Magnum primers mean use start loads and work back up.

I was doing some testing on some old 10mm reloads I did a while back and rediscovered how nice BD works in 10's as well. It is one of those powders you could kind of standardize on (not unlike W231), maybe not the ultimate in any of the calibers, but darn close to the top, time after time.

Thought I'd follow up on this:

I made 4 batches of test rounds with 115 gr Xtreme Plated round nose and Fed SPM . I started at 6.8 (Lyman 49 starting load) and went to 7.4 (7.6 is max in Lyman 49) in .2gr increments.

I shot them from a Sig P226 with a 16# spring.

All 4 batches worked well, no flattened primers, etc. The 7.2 gr grouped the best.

I made some 9mm blue dot test loads with 100gn frangibles. I have had trouble finding a load that I liked with these bullets and I kept going with faster and faster powders. I decided to go the complete opposite way and go with a slow powder to see what happens.

I have not loaded the frangibles, I really prefer slower powders for 9mm in general. Powders like Blue Dot, Longshot and VV-3N37 are my favorites. If I was loading them for target only, I am sure something faster would be my choice.

For my SD loads in 9, a full case of VV-3N37 under a 124gr XTP is hard to beat.

Good experience here with BD in 9mm also. Not my very favorite, but it's been available with some degree of consistency so I've kept using it. Typically loading behind 124g lead for practice, and 124g speer gold dot bullets for zombie defense.

I use BlueDot on all of my 9mm.
Current load I use is on the low in Spears book as I shoot a Glock 19 and lighter loads feel better to me. Here is mine - 115 Grn Win FMJ, CCI500, BD 7.6 (really though it does vary on my Dillon 650 do to the flake powder) Ranges from 7.2 to 7.6 - For plinking its all good. Loaddata website has some good info from all the different manuals as well as peoples own loads (if you trust them)

I stopped at 7.4 because I was using SPM, no signs of any ill effect at that charge. 7.6 is max in my Lyman books. 7.2 grouped the best, but now I wonder how 7.6 or more will do.....

I've been messing around with BD in .45ACP looking for a loud firey toy for indoors. Might try it in 9mm now. I think the wife could have some fun with it.

Ima have to give bluedot a go for 9mm. Im currently using w231 on my 9 and 40.
