When you travel half way around the world to South Africa!
Got to Africa with my super anal careful preped brass, carefully hand primed, hand weighted powder charged and bullets carefully seated ammo. The most carefully made ammo I have ever done. Went to check sight my rifles. First shot a dud! Never had one in all my reloading years. Felt about 1" tall. Tried a second shot. Click.....another dud. Now I am really upset. PH offered a round of his cheap factory ammo. Now I am looking for a hole to get in and pull the dirt over me. I double check the firing pin strikes and they look good. So I try another round...bang and another...bang.
Check sight my other rifle and all work fine. I hunt everything with my 2nd rifle a 338win mag. Fired more shot with the 1st rifle(30-06) and no more duds but did not use the rifle.
My daughter check sights her rifle with my handloads and all is well ...3 shots touching just to the right of where I had it sighted. Slight adjustment and she is ready to hunt.
The really strange thing is that I had fired about 900+ rounds in 4 different chamberings all using the same lot(box) of primers without a single problem at home preparing for the trip. Pulled down the 2 rounds and they had the prober amount of powder so it was the primers.
You can bet that Win will hear from me.
