Look up if there are any rifle/carbine classes in your area and find out when they are. If you are lucky you can just show up after the class and after people leave you can hoard all the brass. I have done this a few times.
Unfortunately thats all the help I can offer.

The only commercial you should buy is Lapua. Otherwise, get Lake City.

This may be a stupid question.......but why should the only commercial brass to buy be Lapua or Lake City ? Also, I've read that all .223 brass has a primer crimp except Remington. Any truth to this ? Is there any headstamp that I should really shy away from ?Comment

Federal from Federal Gold Medal Match is soft. Federal 'FC' is garbage. Winchester rims wear out fast (not good if using for the AR). Remington brass is probably ok, but the only people I know who use it are bolt gun shooters.
Lapua is the best brass out there.
Lake City isn't commercial, but it's very reliable. I forgot to include WCC brass, which is most commonly found in military MK262 Mod1 ammo.
Primer pockets are crimped by the ammunition manufacturer. If you buy new brass, it won't have crimped pockets. If you buy once fired, then brass from military ammo will most likely have crimped primer pockets.

Yes stay away from IK headstamp brass. Rim is so soft i have gotten tons of them stuck in sizing dies and they are a royal pain in the ***.

I guess it depends on your use.
When someone talks about reloading ammo these days I assume it's mostly to save money.
If you're working up loads for competition/extreme accuracy you'd likely already know where to look for quality components.

Yea, if the OP is just trying to save money, he'll go with range pick up brass. If he wants the best, he'll pay for it.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

Actually, reloading for accuracy most of the time indirectly implies you are reloading for economy as well.
Match grade factory ammunition is expensive. Loading your own using, reusing brass a certain number of times, results in lower cost per round.
There are ways to load dirt cheap. Range pickup brass, surplus powder, and bulk high volume generic bullets is the way to go for low cost.
The cost of brass is negligible as long as you make attempts to maximize the use. You should be able to get *at least* 5 reloads out of Lake City brass in .223 in the AR. If you follow some of the tips regarding adjusting the FL die to minimize shoulder bump and body sizing for your specific gun, you can get several more reloads out of the brass.
