    Shipping Surprises?

    Hi,

I'm thinking of getting into reloading. Assuming I get all the gear, are there any Kalifornia restrictions for shipping the needed components (primers, powder, etc) to my home address?

    TIA,

    No. Not really.

But primers and powder will carry a hazmat fee. They have to be shipped UPS or FedEx, usually UPS. The fee is something like $27.

If you buy powder and primers together, most companies will charge you a hazmat fee for both ($27 x 2) but some will only charge you a single hazmat fee ($27 x 1).

Also, it doesn't matter if you buy 1lb of powder and 100 primers, or 8lbs of powder and 10k primers. The hazmat fee will be the same and will apply regardless.

Midway won't ship me any components to me here in SF.

A few I know of on these threads have endeavored to get Midway to change that policy but to no avail. It generally has never been a big deal as all the other online vendors I deal with gladly ship to SF.

Not even bullets, brass, etc. Nada component wise.

There are certain issues with certain cities/counties where vendors sometimes will not ship specific items. This has been discussed many times, and it's for lots of different reasons (legal/liability/etc). It's also very much hit or miss in regards to who ships and who does not, and vendors don't budge or change policies.

That said, I know Oakland does have some issues like those shared by SF and LA, so the absolute worst that can happen, is the vendor will refuse to ship based on location. If that's the case, look elsewhere.
