.308 loading powder question

Hey guys, is anyone using IMR 4198 for 165gr Sierra game king loads?? The data isn't in my manual, can someone help please

I just checked my Speer #14 manual and I dont see any loads listed for the 165gr bullets and that powder...

Not seeing anything on the Hodgdon/IMR website either...

Ya I know, mine calls for IMR 4895 but I was hoping 4198 could do it. Guess ill just have to search for someone selling 4895 in kegs

Listed for lighter bullets, so..it would work, but likely suffer in performance (velocity). No educated guess at to charge weight.

You might want to call the powder manufacture... sometimes they have data on loads that are not published.

I have not seen any 4198 data for any .308 loads. My guess is that it's a little too fast burning.

There are some book loads for IMR 4198 with lighter bullets, but it is too fast for an optimal load in the 165gr weight class. You could use it in a pinch if you were OK with 2000fps, but I am pretty sure you won't want to waste your SGK's for that purpose.

Please use any info as just that info dont use to reload unless you KNOW these are safe. I posted this to show that there are loads for this powder. Personally there is way too much powder being specified here for me to ever throw this in a load.
