Wanna say Varget for 8lbs was $160 at the Cow Palace in Jan and top of my head 55gr 224 bullets $35 per 500 and Primers Winchester $30 per 1K. So rough est 1000 reloads went up $100 4 months. Or .10 a round.

I hope so too, but I don't think it will ever go back to before.

I remember just last year I was paying $6.50 for a box of PMC Brass 223 55gr 20 pack. Under $0.33 per round.

Don't get me wrong, my hand loads are better but I find that I am paying nearly the same if not more for factory rounds at pre panic prices. Funny thing is I have stockpiled enough components for 223/5.56 to last me a long time. But because it is so much to replenish I don't reload 223 right now. I find myself reloading 270, 308, 30/30 and my 30 06 a lot more now a days. I find that working up new loads and experimenting with new bullets and powders in my bolt action rifles is more fulfilling then throwing a few hundred rounds down range at steal each range session. It wasn't so bad when my ARs were only costing me about $0.14 a round (pulled bullets and pulled powder) to shoot 400 rounds. But now that it cost me nearly $0.30 or more depending on hazmat and shipping to replenish my stock, my ARs are back in the safe. For the same price I am able to reload my larger caliber ammo. And to be honest I am enjoying tweaking my loads trying to tighten up my groups on each load vs just loading mass quantities of ammo to spit out my ARs. Not to mention slowing down has saved me so much money since I went from shooting hundreds of rounds per session to shooting maybe 20-40 rounds now per range session depending how many rifles I want to carry to the range (more like how many rifles I want to have to clean).

For me it's never been about the money when reloading. It's been the knowledge that I can, and knowing I am not at the mercy if Ammo is in stock or not. The main plus for me is being able to load what I can not buy. IE Cowboy loads for old stuff.

I just figured out that using components bought this year, I'm at about $0.28 a round which I thought was high for plinking ammo. I am still picking up factory loads at $0.40 a round ($8 a box) as well. I hope things come back to normal, I need more 22LR. I'm down to my last two cases (10K) and feel like I need more, that is about one years worth.

I think it will come down, just not back to $4.00 a box of plinking ammo. Right now my LGS all seem to be selling low end 55gr plinking 223 ammo for $14.99 and they keep selling out. Pre 2008 I remember paying $3.50 for a box of wolf 556. After 2008 it went up then came back down close to $5.00 for wolf and $8.00 for PMC. And now it has gone up to the point it is close to $1 a round. I think it will come down but I bet we have set a new retail price of $10.00 for PMC and probably $7.50 for cheap imported surplus.

I hope I am wrong but the fact is after each panic, the prices jump and then settle but never make it back to the previous lows.
