    Chronograph question

I am looking to get my own chronograph, tired of always asking for a friend's. actually I am sure they are also tired of me always asking to borrow it .

I was hoping to get some suggestions or things I need to look for or look out for when purchasing a unit. I plan on shooting outdoors in the sun/shade. Also I do realize you get what you pay for but I still would like to save some money for powder and primers.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated.

My CED finally died, so I replaced it with this: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/852...al-chronograph.

It has worked flawlessly (sunny, cloudy, even light rain) everytime I have used it since buying it, about 6 range trips so far.

I also use a Magnetospeed chrony for rifle/shotgun load testing, but it sounds like that might be more than you want to spend.

    Good luck, have fun.

I've had a Chrony for years. I rarely use it since I don't spend much time developing loads. That's pretty much the case for most shooters / (hand|re)loaders, but the chronograph is still a very invaluable tool for anyone who makes their own loads. I'll usually break it out when I rebarrel a rifle, though, and run rounds over the chrono during the break in just to see what my muzzle velocities are like compared to the previous rifle.

My vote goes to the CED M2. I had a Chrony that worked well right up until I shot it

Funny, I have never shot a chrony, but I did see a guy shoot a chrony setup for the position next to him. The owner was speechless, looking at his destroyed chrony.

That is why when I am not using my Magnetospeed, I always try and setup between a couple of known shooters. I never setup my Prochrony near someone shooting an AK, ever.

I have a Shooting Chrony Beta master. It's nice to be able to operate it remotely with the cable and control setup especially if your at a public range. It's 7 years old and still works.

My Oehler is old and still works great. I use it allot. One nice thing is if you screw up and shoot it you only shoot one or maybe both skyscreens and not the unit. I also like the the Electronics and read-out is sitting next to me.

And NO I NEVER let anyone shoot over it. I will shoot their firearm but not them. That is one reason after many years it has not been shot.......Knock on wood.

Pact MK IV Timer / Chronograph. Separate electronics from sky screens plus it's a great practice timer. Best bang for buck in an advanced system IMHO
