Expander ball getting stuck in case 300 blackout

Went to form some 300 Blk out brass. the first case Expander ball stuck in case and zip spindle pulling from die I had to cut the bottom of the case off and tried again. Same thing


I'm using hornady dies. And the one shot case lube on hornady classic press.

Brass is polished deprimed trimmed chamfered and deburred


Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: so apparently I wasn't cranking down on the collet hard enough to lock the spindle.

Form 300blk from .223? Are cutting the brass down first?

Yes cutting 223 brass at shoulder. I sprayed the case and inside of the neck. Also put a little on the expander ball. It seems to me the "zip spindle" isn't tight enough and letting the ball and depriming rod slip up and down.

Sounds like a zip spindle issue.

A better method was to pull the spindle, resize the lubed brass, then cut, chamfer, tumble. Then, replace spindle and neck sizer ball, lube, resize and chamfer, free of grit and brass bits, and retumble.
It's a extra step, but I don't want any more stuck cases.
I've found LC 5.56 NATO brass to be most durable, and it seems well annealed from the start.

Ditch the one shot and use the 90/10 Lanolin/Isopropyl spray lube.

I've formed over 250 to 300 cases (5.56 to 300AAC) so far and haven't had a single problem yet.

I'm using the Lee dies.

Yes I plan on ditching the one shot once its depleted.

I bought the classic kit and got the one shot in the kit.

Your hands have to start bleeding; then it's almost tight enough. Those short wrenches you use just don't give much leverage. Cheater pipes are what I use.

Mica works the best for lubing the necks, no oils to mess up your powder charge.

I'am opening .223 cases from .22-7mm without any problems but, useing rcbs dies. Check your expander ball & see if it's rough you may be able to clean that sizeing edge up with some wet or dry in a drill motor.
