Alliant Varmint pro

I've used Varmint powder in the past and just picked up 16 pounds of it! It's a good powder IMHO. My feeling is it is Alliant's version of H335 or BL-C2. For my AR I've loaded up 24.7gr under a 55gr boolit. This load cycled the gun fine, and shot 1 inch groups at 100 years out of 2 different AR's. Hence the reason I got 16 pounds. I will be working up loads for my bolt guns in 223 & 204 soon! But I don't see why I shouldn't get 1/2 inch or so groups out of it. I settled on H335 when powder was plentiful but since I can't get H335 I've put all my eggs in the Varmint basket, I hope it pays off for my Varmint rifle. But hey why would they call it Varmint if it was lousy in a Varmint gun
Hornady has worked up loads in their new book for Varmint in 223 and the Alliant web site has data. The Alliant web site show much hotter loads than Hornady. I'll start mid range and work up looking for accuracy.Last edited by mjmagee67; 04-10-2013, 11:46 AM.If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.
