    Xtreme 230HP OAL ?

I am starting to reload .45 and I have a couple questions. I am using bullseye powder @4.6 and 5.0 grains. I have measured the golden saber ammo that I have at a 1.19 oal. I have searched here and read in the Lyman book and Lee instructions that the oal should be 1.243-1.26". I have made a range of rounds from 1.19-1.25". All of them "plunk" into my p345 chamber. They also load and eject manually. I have yet to fire any of these rounds.

Are these specs OK to run? Is 1.19 too short (over pressure?)?

    Thanks in advance

I have used the 230gr Xtreme @ 1.250, 1.255, and 1.260 COAL with out any issues on my 1911. Any shorter and it just looks too short to me...

Cant comment on your load... either way you should work it up from min first.

Alliant lists 1.200" as the minimum OAL for a 5gr load of BE under a similar bullet (230gr GD, i.e. plated HP), so you are slightly under their minimum QAL at their max of 5gr at 1.190". The 45 Auto is a low pressure round chambered in modern guns capable of withstanding much higher pressures, so you likely won't over pressure that case at 1.190". I load all my 45 Autos out more like 1.250-1.265" primarily for feed purposes and perhaps a little better accuracy, depending on the load and the gun.

If you want to be inside the lines all the way, 1.200" is your bogie.

I use 1.230 COL with 5.0gr Bullseye or 6.7gr Power Pistol. That COL runs nicely in my Sig and Kimber. I use 1.245 COL with the RN bullets with the same powder loads.
