    .223 brass question

I'm new to reloading and have recently worked up several first time loads for my ar15. Tried several powders at min charge and all cycled except one. I only have about 75 empty brass and have loaded these 4 times now. What is the average times you can load .223 brass. Just min charged with PMC brass if that is a factor. I am also looking to buy some used brass in the Sacramento area if anyone knows a source and could pm me I would appreciate it. And thanks to all on here, your a wealth of info for new reloaders.

As many times till they are no longer usable, split necks, loose primer pockets, and check at the base for impending case head separation, usually evident by a bright ring just above the case head.

With minimum charges you should get a few more at least. Just keep an eye out for the regular signs of wear. ie cracked case mouths, necks, or base. What area of Sac you in? I have a little extra brass I could let go for super cheap. 75 isn't enough to have fun with. You deserve more. PM me your info.

There was a gun magazine test a couple of years ago where Winchester brass went 23 loadings before taking a recycling nap. Good old Winchester out lasted 'em all.

With the AR, for the short line ammo (200 and 300 yards), I use the same LC brass for three rotations. Then it gets relegated to practice ammo use. After that, I get another 5 reloads or so before head separations occur (maybe 1.5 per 100 on average).

Most ranges have lots of .223 brass lying around although more and more people are picking it up these days. Find someone not picking up their brass and politely ask if you can have it.
