pull down from 7.62x54r surplus and reused

Is it a dangerous thing to pull down the powder from a surplus 54r round and reloaded on a 30-06 brass case with the same bullet grain size?

I'm thinking it's corrosive powder. Therefore I would say don't use.

I thought about doing the same with my leftover powder from the (Romanian?) surplus I have. The Russian case is a x54 (4.16 cm3) and 30-06 is x62 (4.4 cm3). I last measured the x54 surplus case powder at somewhere around 47 gr.

Powder acts different in shells with greater or smaller volume even if the amount is the same. I still think it's safer to buy off the shelf stuff, but If you REALLY want to try it then remember to download and let us know...if you come back in one piece that is...

The powder and amount should work fine.

To be safe, you need to do a load work up, but I bet you end up at the same spot you started when you pulled the first bullet.

          Good luck, have fun.

          PS-That is with a .308 bullet right?

LikeAllGuns----Powder is not corrosive. The primers are what is corrosive in corrosive ammo.
I will not say it is unsafe as I do not know for sure. I would NOT do it personally and I have been reloading many years. Then I have plenty of powder for all my different rifle loads.
If you do anything pull the bullets and dump the powder into a commercial 7.62X54R case with a modern(non-corrosive) primer and shoot it in your 7.62X54R rifle. Then you do not need to clean it after shooting like with corrosive ammo.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Corrosive powder? I thought it was only the primers that are corrosivefrom surplus

                He is correct. 54R uses a .311 to .312 bullet and 30-06 uses a 308.

                So I would say.

Correct. Using boxer primed brass is a whole lot better then corrosive primed steel for tumbling and reloading afterward no matter what powder used at any rate to boot.
