Reloading Bench Height

Great pictures of members benches. The ideas it generates are going to be helpful. The height of the bench is just as important in comfort and seating options. How tall is your bench?

Mine is 40" high. I generally sit in a 32", backed barstool that swivels, but if I want to stand, the higher bench keeps my back from getting sore. I'm 6'4".

Mine is 36" high. I'm about 5'11. My Dillon sits on a strong mount and allows me to have enough leverage to slightly cam over.

+1 to 36" height. Works perfect for me on my single stage press. 550 on strong mount on 36" bench is best ergonomic I have found. I prefer to stand when reloading, sitting loses body leverage IMHO and I find I can go longer without upper body fatigue while standing.

33 inches i use a swivel office chair and it seems to work fine.

Mine is 36" high as well. I also table-top mount my presses as I like them all higher. I have a bar stool at the bench, but don't actually sit on it when reloading.

36" high bench with presses mounted on strong mounts. I load standing up. If you want to load sitting down just mount the press right to the bench and use a bar stool.

I have mine mounted to an antique desk at the same height at standard computer desks these days.

I sit down while reloading, and can go for a long time, and look in each case for the charge in station 3 on my XL 650. Feels very ergonomic at this height.

41" Dillon 650 bolted to the top( no mounts) I'm 5'4" at the bottom of the stroke my arm is at a comfortable extension, I load standing. A cushey mat to stand on.

If you want to sit at the bench and you are using a standard height chair, then your bench top is 29". That is the standard table height for furniture.

If you want to stand at your bench, measure from your elbow to the floor. The bench top should be 2" shorter. This is a good height to work on the bench top without having to lean over.

If you are using a beam scale, whether sitting or standing, install a shelf that will have the scale at eye level.

36. Keep the bench at standard work height. If you need to move the press, put it on a riser if you need to.

My current bench is 33-1/2" using a 23" tall saddle stool. The bench was pre-existing so I just found a stool that would work with it. I was told by an old machinist to make a fist and tuck it under your chin with your forearm vertical. Distance from the floor to your elbow will give you the perfect bench height. Works for me.

I built benches in my gun room. I have one bench fro sitting for my Dillon Square Deal, and one standing for my Dillon 550. I just stood and put my hand out flat where I thought the tabletop should be and had my wife measure the distance.
