I have the 49th lyman and the 9th hornady looking to pick up speers also.
thing is both dont have much data with aa2 and .40. plus I feel safer if I have others opinions who used the powder. aa2 is all I could find in the crazy ness and I missed being able to buy aaa5 by 20min the counter sales person told me. and 155gr plated is all I could find also.

      You will do fine.

#2 is a terrific powder for target loads. 155gr plated will also work fine for target shooting.

Take your time, get to know how the scale works to make sure your loads are accurate. You are starting conservatively which is terrific for a newcomer.

      Good luck, have fun.

Excellent product. I shoot the 180gr FP's almost exclusively in my 10mm and 40S&W.

            One additional thing:

When looking at published data, consider that starting loads are at a certain level because they want to make sure they cycle all guns in the hands of all people. Some guns will run lighter loads than others, especially if you lock your wrists while shooting. Don't be afraid to load long, like 1.150". I found that OAL to be generally more accurate than 1.120" or thereabouts.

I have used several pounds of aa2 in 45 and 9mm. It is great with light bullets. One thing I have noticed is many of accurate online data runs hotter than many other guides. So starting a little low per accurat data may be starting loads in some more conservative guides.
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

so no kabooms found out hk wont cycle below 4.8gr and xd was cycling 4.4.
had some unburnt powder tho left in barrel is that normal?

Unburnt powder means you are running light. You can either bump the load up some, or seat the bullet a little deeper. For #2, in 40S&W, I would just bump a little in powder, say go to 5.0gr like J-cat suggested.

Sounds like you are on the right track.

                    Have fun.

4756 is a bit too slow for what you are trying to do. Not a good powder for light loads. Now that you know where the bottom is, load 5 grains of #2, then 5.2, then 5.4 and so on until you're happy with the accuracy. AA powders always leave some unburnt powder in the barrel, that's normal.

Yes same, at least to start. You may find that you need a skosh more powder with the HB, than a similar weight non-HB xtreme.

What I find reloading 40 brass is some of it fired from glocks have a bulge at the base which will need attention when resizing and not loading to max pressures makes practice better.

OAL effect pressure only? or accuracy to?
