I have been torn lately about selling some projectiles and using to buy ammo so I can shoot. Yes, everything to reload has gone up. Plus, there isn't much around. So, is it better to just sell the projectiles at today's market and buy ammo I need/want or to save them so when the materials to make ammo decreases later? What WYD?

SELL NOW or save for later?

I'm not really following you. Are you saying you'll get enough for the bullets to buy the equal amount of rounds?
Or are you going to sell like 1000 bullets just to use the money for 100 rounds?
Yes components are hard to find but so is factory ammo.
Why not just load and shoot them?Last edited by XDRoX; 03-23-2013, 9:56 AM.Chris

Only way you'de come ahead is to sell reloading components now when they are high and rebuy them when prices drop. To sell components now at the high to just buy ammo when it is also at a high and hard to get as well is not any gain.
So all you have is projectiles and need other components to reload yourself??Last edited by Sheldon; 03-23-2013, 9:39 AM.Comment

Well if you have extra of something you don't need and don't have the capital to obtain what you do need then I say it is a great idea to sell your surplus to obtain what you want.
I get costs have gone up for reloading but it's still cheaper to reload then it is to buy loaded ammo. Are you talking about a different caliber? You should also remember that if you sell your reloading supplies you may have a hard time restocking them.Comment

Trade some for what you need to load them up.Comment

I definitely don't have enough powder or primers for reloading the projectiles I have. Since the price of ammo and reloading material are both more costly than usual, maybe selling some projectiles to get powder and primer might be the way to goComment

I know I won't get enough for the projectiles to buy too much ammo so selling it or trading it for powder and primers sounds better.Comment

Just do not put your add to trade here. There is the market sectionA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I'll tell you what I did. I stocked up in November, and unloaded my excess stuff on gunbroker this last month. What good will 3,000 projectiles do me when I don't have powder for them? I sold what I couldn't use in the forseeable future while maintaining a prudent reserve.Comment

I have more 40 bulletheads than anything else. i am low on powder and primers. I've noticed bullethead prices for large calibers like 40 and 45 have gone up a lot. If i see decently priced primers, i'd buy some but it's hard to pay double for anything but if you need it, you do; right.Comment

what powder are you looking for? Maybe I can send you in the right direction. As for primers. I use magnums if I have to but I drop my charge down the minimum or less and work up a new load.I have more 40 bulletheads than anything else. i am low on powder and primers. I usually use common winchester 231 with CCI or Federal spp. I have some of each but not enough to load all my bulletheads. I saw a few people with primer and powder; the spp were high; about $55 to $65/1k. I might wait a little.Comment
