    IMR SR4756

Anyone use this for reloading 45, 9 or 40? Your thoughts.

It is kind of slow but will work well for hot loads in each.. Think heavier bullets or high velocity loads..

"C" stands for compressed, as in with that load and the bullet seated to the load OAL, the base of the bullet is compressing the powder. I would start with the Hodgdon load data and work up slowly.

I use it for reduced loads in rifle cartridges

231 and SR 4756 are at opposite ends of the spectrum as far as pistol loading goes.. You will require more 4756 to get to the same pressure level that a small amount of 231 will get you.. for that extra powder, and the slow burn rate, you will get more velocity..

231 is a fairly fast burning powder..

4756 is on the slower end but not the slowest in pistol powder.. Look it up in the online data manuals.. you can check out www.hodgdon.com. Take a look at one bullet weight in ine of your calibers and see what they reccommend for 231 and what they reccommend for 4756..

231 is target powder.. light recoil, little blast, high pressure with small charges.

4756 is for full power ammo, higher velocities, a bit more forgiving when pushing for maximum loads..

Thanks for all the input. Right now the only powder my LGS has is IMR sr4756 and Hoddon HS6. I am waiting for Alliant Power Pistol to come in since it appears to be the most versatile for the 9, 40 and 45.

I like it for 9mm loads both jacketed and cast lead, and i use it for lead in the 45, i mostly use 231 in the 45 though

If you are waiting on using power pistol, I'd say go ahead and use the 4756. Power pistol is just a little bit faster than 4756 and will load about the same loads as 4756. Velocity might be a little less with the heavier bullets, but it's likely negligible. HS6 is in the same class as 4756, but is a flattened ball powder and is a bit more compact when loaded to the same pressures/velocities.
