Looking For 300 Win Mag Reload Data

    Hello,

I am looking for 300 win mag data using the following components. Please note that the only component changing is the projectile.

    Powder: H4831

    Primers: Federal 215M (magnum match)

    Cases: Mix of cases

    Projectiles:
    (1) Sierra 200gr SBT (GameKing)
    (2) Sierra 180gr SPT (Pro-Hunter)
    (3) Sierra 180gr BPBT (MatchKing)
    (4) Hornady 168gr A-Max Moly

Please let me know if you have reloading data for the above mentioned projectiles with the other listed components.

    Thank you!

Of course, but finding exact matches for my listed components seems to be tricky.

i was doing a lot of 300 win mag loading for a while....I have a few recipies but best advice is to spend a few bucks and join loaddata.com and also maybe reloaders nest...you will save so much time and grief...it is less money than the boose you will need to get over doing it yourself.

Check with hodgdon.com. You should get info you need.

When I check Hodgdon, the components don't seem to match. How much of a difference does the bullet manufacturer and primers make? As long as the bullet is the same weight, can I assume the data should be the same with a different manufacturer's projectile? Same with primers?

All most every manu. follows industry standards as far as diam, of bullet and weight is the same. It might be just me but the only load data I will follow is published or from a few selected friends. I have had very similar results with any brand primer as long as they are magnum or regular. The only time I worry about the type of primer is when loading at or near max. The only exception is semi auto, than I will only use NATO spec primers.

So if I find data on Hodgdon with a Nosler 200gr projectile, is it safe to say the data will be the same for a Sierra 200gr projectile?

and as they say you should start at the min load and work your way up. Check for signs of over pressure etc. As a reloader I have several books, one from Hornady, One from Nosler, but I do not have one from Sierra. You can also check handloads.com and reloaders nest.

Yes just do not start at max load.

I just checked the Hornady 8th Edition, unfortunately there's no data for the 168 A-Max using H-4831. They do have data for IMR 4831. If you have other powders and you want more of the data, PM me and I'll send what data I have on the manual's page for the 168.

This. The starting loads (bullet weight/powder) will be safe. Work up from there. All rifles, powder lots, etc. are a bit different. No real issues with that caliber/powder regarding reduced loads as there sometimes is with magnum pistols.

When loading all copper (ala Barnes), try to get specific data for charges and seating length/depth.

My 300 really likes 72 grains of H4831 under a 180 grain pill.

You might want to start a few grains below and work your way up.

                            Sierra 5th Edition 2003 printing:
                            300 Win Mag

                            Fed case--Fed 215 primer
                            all bullets- 175 MK, 180 SPT, 180 SBT, 180 RN----all tested at 3.340"
                            H 4831 SC powder---start 68.2-2800fps-----maximum 70.7-2900fps
                            ---------------------------
Same components as above with the 200 grain SBT and 200 gr. Matchking
                            H4831 SC------start 63.6-2600fps----66.1-2700fps----maximum 68.6-2800fps
Hodgdon says H4831 and H4831 SC are ballistically the exact same.
