My verdict on Wolf SRP and H335, latest version

I started a thread a few months ago about some problems I had with Wolf SRP and .223. This is the latest style, with the thicker cup and hotter primer. I was getting hang fires and misfires, and quite a few. Not coincidentally , this was the first batch of .223 ammo I'd ever reloaded

My verdict, after getting a tumbler and different case lube, is that I'd contaminated my primers. I've shot at least a few hundred rounds since that first batch and experienced none of the problems I'd had previously.

I think also seating the primers with the ram in the press, not just the hand primer, didn't hurt, as there seemed to be some give.

I wish I could tell you I shot 1000 rounds and no problem, but who's got that kind of money?!? ;-)

Anyway, figured I'd post an update.

I've never had an issue with that powder/primer combo. What were you using for case lube before? I use my own version of Dillons case lube and wolf srm primers and wc-844 and have had 0 issues in nearly 5k rounds.

Perhaps some of the primers weren't fully seated in your first batch.

      1) what was your process in reloading? the steps including case prep
      2) was this your first reloading ever?
      3) what did you different the second time
      4) how did you "contaminate" your primers?
      5) there is no issue with mixing different primers and different powders together. you can light powder with a match - if the primer goes off, powder burns.
6 there is no difference between hand priming or priming on the press.

Tula/Wolf primers have been a pretty reliable option for me as well.

Specifically the Tula SRM 556 primer.

So far I have used them with H335 and BL-C2 and have not had any issues but I do find them a little harder to seat vs the CCI equivalent.

Ive never had a problem with the primers or powder not going off. I use the combination of powder and primer and never had a problem. The advice I could give you is that to never lube your cases near your primers. Always keep primers in its case until ready for use. I always take a whole day to do case prep or two if i have that many cases to go through and clean. I size/deprime then clean my cases that way I have no lube in the cases and there is no problem with contamination of any time
