    Chronographs at Bay Area Ranges

I have never used a chrony and not sure if I can bring them to places like Chabot or Livermore.

Do I move a bench out past the line and put the chrony there ? Im looking at the rcbs chronograph . I dont think it has legs.

    Thanks guys

Chronos go on any standard camera tripod.

    Chabot, yes
    Livermore, don't know.

Livermore will actually rent one to you if you do not want to truck yours out there. Just don't shoot it lol

Just one note about using a chronograph at Livemore. The overhang will cast a shadow, make sure both sunscreens are in the light or both in the shade. If you don't, you will get errors.

Livermore Pleasanton Rod and Gun Club, has a Shooting Chrony, chronograph for rent.

You are GTG to bring one to Chabot and Metcalf. It must come on its own tripod (or tripods, in the case of the Oehler 35p) and you run out during the target change period with it and hope you can get it all ready in one go. Helpful is having somebody back behind the line who can sight for you, since very small tweaks to the angle of the screens or lateral position of the tripod(s) make a huge difference. Way easier to manage this yourself at a place like Chabot where you can run back and forth directly from the range to behind the safety line behind your bench, much more inconvenient at a place like Metcalf where it's an end run around all the benches, depending on which bench you're at. Another idea is a laser bore sighting tool in your chamber with your rifle left aimed on target from the bench, but I don't know how well the RO's cotton to anything besides a flag in the chamber during ceasefire personally.

Last time I was at Richmond, they had a dedicated chronographing bay. Don't know if they supply the chronograph, but I think it only takes an RO to use the bay.
