contacted Remington but they want me to ship them the fired brass as well as the unfired rounds I have (blah, blah, blah)... anyhow, I did pull one of the Remington bullets and weighed the powder. It weighed 26.1 grains. If anyone has the exact same kind of ammo and could pull a round to weigh the powder, that would get me in the ballpark. It is the stuff in the green and white box. Labeled 223 Remington, 55 GR. MC L223R3. Thanks!

Have you called and talked to CMMG yet? I tends to think that it IS your rifle's issue. If you call CMMG, they will be able to tell you if they had ever seen something like this before.....

Called CMMG just a bit ago. Real helpful people over there. First thing he wanted to know was the ammo I was using. When I said Remington, he said that I was the 3rd call with the same issues in the last two weeks, all with Remington.

For peace of mind he said I could send it in and they would double check things for me but he suggested using some Winchester or another major brand to see if I was getting the same results. I have time before my next trip to the range, so I might as well pick up some other brands of 223 and see what happens. I think I will just fire one round and then check for any signs such as the marks on the head stamp.

Since a few of you have mentioned the XM193 as being hotter than typical Remington, I will leave that alone till I get a more definitive answer to my problem. I do have some of the econo Wolf stuff coming from Ammoman. It should be here today actually. Unfortunately it looks like I don't get to the range till Monday or Tuesday.

This is the benefit of calling them.

XM193 is 5.56NATO, most commerical ammo are 223REM. 5.56NATO is hotter than 223REM. In trying to debut your issue, you should try to use commerical 223REM. Ie. maybe Federal AE223(American Eagle) or some other brand. Stick with 223REM (so no Winchester Q3131A, which is also M193/5.56NATO)

Sure you can't make it this weekend, Andy? I think I've got some AE .223 lying around somewhere. (Also have some XM193, Q3131a, and Prvi M193 you could try, but let's not tempt fate, eh? Or we could, but we'd have to tie your rifle to a tire and pull the trigger w/ a shoe string! )

Hey, weren't one of the two a round I shot?

I didn't notice anything different until Patrick showed us the spent brass.

If you only knew how bad I want to get up there. I will have to see how family life treats me in the next couple days

Yeah, one of the missing primer pieces was what you shot. I didn't notice anything louder/different either.

Blowing up in your face is not going to happen with 55,000 psi
you might rupture the case but blow up the rifle is bit too much
