    30 06 Reloading problems.

    Folks,

Need some help, I just started reloading 30 06 again after many years. I have lots of Greek HXP 30 06 that have bi-metal jackets that are a no-no at Angeles.
I pulled about 100 rounds of HXP pulled the bullets, full length resized them, put CCI #34 primers in the pocket after getting rid of the crimp of the old primers. Loaded 47 grains of H4895 topped with a Nosler 155gr Custom Competition. The load worked great.
I picked up the brass, fired out of 03A4 poser, put it in a bag. Well, this weekend I had a little time to kick around. So the brass, full length resized the cases, popped the old #34 primers. Then each case was measured to see if they needed to be trimmed to length most were at 2.485.
I was trying to work up a load for some E-tips I hope to use for coyotes, I was trying IMR 4064, and the data I had said to start with 47 grains but I tried with 46. This was not the issue, after the powder was deposited in the case, each charge hand weighed. It was off to the bullet seater, 3.255 dialed in, but the bullets were dropping into the case, or would slide in and out WTF. I measured the necks, some were .341-.345, holy ****.
My case lubricant is a spray made by Dillon reloading, I noticed that some the cases I had picked up had flattened primers, only thecks of these cases was out of spec. Any help from the reloading community would be greatly appreciated. I am using Lee 30 06 dies, A2

if you are full length sizeing the right way, the necks should have an ID of less than .308. My advise would be to measure your expander ball and see what its at.

Secondly, if you have lots of HXP, you might be better off selling it for $$ and buying some new brass instead of pulling bullets.

Good news, it is one of just a few possibilities.

First, you need to screw your sizing die down farther. Bring the ram all the way up, screw the die down until it touches the ram, lower the ram, turn the die a quarter turn farther, lock at this depth. Depending on the brand of dies you are using, you may need to raise the decap pin some so your die can go all the way down.

Second, if screwing the sizing die down all the way doesn't fix it, take the decap pin out and measure the expander ball, it should be .001-.002 less than .308"

Third, if the first two are not the problem, measure the e-tips, they should be .308-.309". Btw, if after you get the sizing dialed, you have problems getting a load that the e-tips work at, do yourself a favor and buy some 150gr Barnes TTSX'S, I gave up on th e-tips.

Fourth, if the first three don't fix it, check to make sure you are using 30-06 dies.

After you get the sizing working properly, you probably should go back and measure you head spacing properly, so you can dial the sizer in a little, so you are not pushing the shoulder back more than is required.

        Good luck, hav fun.

Also check bullet dia to be sure you have the correct bullets.

Flattened primers often mean excess pressure. I would check my componets again. Why if these are un-fired cases are you full length sizeing them, it seems an extra step. If it were me I would pull the bullets dump the powder, measure the charge and replace with a new bullet. Decapping live primers can be excitting. If you are worried about possible corrosive primers take a thermos of hot soapy water to the range and scrub the bore after shooting. Just my two cents worth, I also shoot the M1.

Since you are shooting a bolt gun & hand weighing the powder why not pull bullets, weigh powder, reduce by 10% put back in & seat new bullet?
