Can dies from any manufacturer be used with other companies reloading presses or are they specific to the company?

Modern reloading dies are generally standardized with 7/8-14 (or, for the case of 50 BMG dies, with 1-1/4x12) threads and are interchangeable with all common brands of presses, although older dies may use other threads and be press-specific. -g

Yes, as long as they have the 7/8-14 threads.

Not a solid answer.
Most 50bmg dies are 1.5". Lee is the one that uses a different dia die and the press is junk for a 50bmg. I have the Hornady press and my buddy got the lee press and has broken it twice already.
Dies for the Dillon square deal are an odd size also.
The Herters hand press dies were an odd size and I am not sure about their other presses.

Other than that most modern dies for more commonly used cartridges are the 7/8" die.

Except Lyman 310 and tru-line jr dies which are commonly called 5/8x30 and actually measure .605x30 --
the 310 is a very handy tool --
