I load 9mm for 13.8 cents per round or around $7 per box of 50

this is for FMJ not plated or lead

If I cast it is 5 cents per round, or $2.50 a box

Dollar wise yes, I don't save as much as 45, 380, or 44. But percentage wise I am still saving 40%ish.

Does this make it not worth loading, not at all. At $7 a box if I shoot 200 rounds of 9mm on a day shooting that is $20.
I will share my opinion and my load data, BUT I am just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns. Whatever I say is probably wrong.

        9mm:
        $115.975 for 500 Walmart PRE-PANIC price (AVG of 100 and 250 Pack per round*500) 115gr FMJ
-$56.597 for 500 plated reloads (current cost for me) 124gr loaded hot'ish
        -----------
$59.378 savings every 500 rounds (pre-panic price used)

With almost ZERO brass prep (<5 minutes of actual work per 500 cases) reloading is still way more cost effective.

Seems like I am getting a lot of heat in this thread.

Last year Miwall had new factory 9mm for $180/1k, reloads were around $130.
Cost for me on components at that time was $90/1k. So, $20/hr savings.

Just a reminder everyone in this subforum last year was against reloading for money saving reasons.

If OP wants to reload for enjoyment more power to him. If you want to reload to avoid spikes in the market good for you. I was only saying that there is not much financial incentive to load 9mm, non panic marketplace.

I haven't seen anything remotely resembling heat. Disagreement, sure, but that's just because you're wrong.

Maybe you're referring to the old saw that "You'll save no money, you'll just shoot more?"
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."

If you are just reloading 9mm its going to be awhile before before you recoup your cost. If you dump $1000 into a setup it will take a few years before you make it up if you only shoot a few hundred a month. I would say about 50 bucks per 1k pre panic prices. I would need to make about 20,000 rounds before I get my money back. It would be over 6 years for me personally.

Most people say its not about saving money, its about shooting more for same amount of money. However, I squeeze range time between work and errands so no extra time to shoot those extra rounds.

Reloading is about tuning the load to your gun. Saving money is a side benefit.

Lee Challenger kit is $100, making the return even quicker and I may not be an expert but If you handed me a round loaded on a 650 versus one loaded on a Challenger, I'll be damned if I can tell you which one is which.
