IMR 4198 is on the fast side for .223, but shouldn't be an issue. Hodgdon has reload data on their site showing loads with that powder and 63 gr. Sierra pills. You have an extra buffer of safety if used for a 5.56 barrel to boot.

If this can work for a 60 grain V-max, it can certainly work for a 50:

Bullet weight: Man. Powder Bullet Dia. C.O.L. Min Grs. Vel. Pressure Max Grs. Velocity Pressure
    60 GR. HDY V-MAX IMR IMR 4198 .224" 2.250" 18.3 2795 fps. 42,500 PSI 19.5 2945 52,000 PSI

Anyway...here's a dearth of reasoning to ponder: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Guns

They show data for that combination on the web site.

I've used plenty of this powder in .223.

Thanks guys that's exactly what I was looking for. Ill load 5 of each to see which one cycles through the AR smoother.
