    338 Win Mag using H4350

    Speer #13 manual list a starting load for a 200gr bullet as 71gr. with a max of 75 gr.
    Hodgdon list on their website a starting load of 65gr with a max of 72.5 gr.

    Can anyone help with this or explain the discrepancy ?

    I have used 72 grains of H4350 with a CCI 250 primer the last 10-12 years without any problem. I ran out of my old powder and after buying a new batch of H4350 saw these recommendations on Hodgdon's website.

    ive got 4 or 5 books i always cross-reference with....talk about confused sometimes !!!! i usually go with the book that is using the same brass and primer im going to use.... the manufacture of the bullet and their book is always my first choice though---others are great for checking diff. components im using....its always something to scratch your head about...safety first always though... cheers...

      Different components = different results. The Hornady #8 book shows a starting load of 58.7 grs. of H-4350 to a maximum of 73.9 grs. of H-4350 with their 200 gr. bullet.

      Load a few rounds @ 70 grains with the new H-4350 and go up from there if you get no signs of high pressure.

        65-71 vs 72-75.

        At most that's <10% off, and <5% at max loading. I don't see a discrepancy at all.

        Especially when the rule of the day when discussing load data is always the endless yammering of "work up your own loads, see what works best for you, never start at max load, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc."

        3 grains off would make me concerned if we were loading 380 or 5.7. But not a magnum.

            What specific bullet are you using?
            Also, what length barrel and what length are you loading your ammo to?
            With those figures I can run a quick load simulation...

                  Would it be possible to run a load simulation for Hodgdon's 4350 as that is the powder I am using. Thanks for the info on IMR as I will try that too in the future.
