    Dented brass from HK??

    I've got some brass shot through an HK-91 that has the telltale ridges in the neck and small dent in the side. Ridges are more black marks than actual ridges as they come out nicely in the resizing die. You can't really feel them with your finger prior to resizing and not at all afterwards.

    The dent is halfway down the case side, shallow and small but does not come out. I'm assuming this brass is not reusable with a dent, but just want to check with you folks.

    I think I need to buy an enhanced port buffer to eliminate the dents, or switch to steel case stuff for that gun.

    Is not bueno ruining brass.

    The best way to get of a dent is to shoot it

    You can post some pics, but probably they're fine to shoot.

      The ridges are from the shell casing expanding in the fluted chamber during the bolt lockup.

      The dents are definitely from hitting the ejection port. I wouldn't reload them myself, but that's just me. A port buffer might help.

        I've had my HK-91 since '92 and I've reloaded for it since '95. Unless the 'ding' on the side is gouging into the metal, I wouldn't worry about it.

        HK-91s stretch the brass pretty well due to the 3# BCG, so you need to be mindful if you're trying to get 10 cycles out of your brass, which you probably won't.

        Clean them in a tumbler and see what you see. My Norinco 56S puts a crease that is borderline, in brass fired out of that. My HK-91, no...not really.

        Stretching and case head separation will be a more pressing worry down the road.

          My owners manual for my Kahr CW-9 states that there will be a slight deformation of the brass as it hits the side of the ejection port. Could that be the same with your HK?

            HK makes an ejection port buffer to eliminate the dinging. Mine doesn't do it, although I do get the flute marks.

              I'd clean the black carbon flute marks off completely. A clean die is a happy long living die.

                The HK case buffer completely eliminates the dent in the side of the case caused by the case striking the back edge of the ejection port during cycling.

                As an added benefit, it reduces the distances an HK91 hurls its spent brass from 15 feet in front of you to 5 feet

                  your brass will split along the fluteing eventually, a little hard on your chamber.
