    Ammo: How Old?

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I could not exactly find what I was looking for:

Ammo--If stored properly, how old is too old?

Have some 7.62X51 (M80 Ball, military) from 1967. I'm not really planning on shooting it, but I figured I'd ask...

I'm not sure how old is TOO old, but I've shot ammo made in the 1940's with no problems. You're good to go.

Haha. I sure hope he doesn't hurt himself with that old stuff. Disposing of it is really best left to professionals like us.

If stored right ammo can last over 100 years. If you are unsure of how it's been stored since it was made, you can send it to me for analysis. I will return any that's OK to shoot after my testing is complete.

This should work. I answered his question, put a little fear into him and offered him a solution that SOUNDS like he'd get live ammo back.

If it's much over 70-80 years old, I would proceed with caution.
The really old ammo often has degraded in quality.
