    Tumbler advice?

I need a tumbler (for cleaning brass).

Before I order something or buy it locally, what tumbler do you guys use and suggest? Why? Are they all basically the same?

Also advice on media would be helpful.

I use an 18 yr old Dillon CV-500 (now CV-750) and it's still chugging away. I also have a Lyman Turbo 1200 that I got with their 'moly' kit and while a lot smaller and probably more fragile, it works fine.

I mostly use walnut with some Dillon polish, but I have corn cob as well.

I use an old tom thumbler, built for tumbling rocks works great for brass.Had it for about 35 years and it still works great. The rock tumblers cost more but last longer as you tumble rocks for days. You might be able to make somthing if you are handy, if not check Harbor Freight.

I have a beat up Frankford Arsenal tumbler that was cheap but works well with walnut media & Flitz.

I bought a Thumlers Tumbler model V 18. It works great and doesn't make a whole lot of noise.http://www.cabelas.com/product/Thuml...12&Ntt=tumbler

I use a Berry's. Great warranty and works well. Soak your brass in Lemi-shine and tumble in walnut and NuFinish.

For walnut media I use a vibrating tumbler. For stainless I use a Harbor Freight mini-cement mixer. I decap and tumble "range brass" (real dirty stuff) and then resize and prime. After that it goes into the walnut to clean off the lube and put a better luster on it (stainless is more of a burnish) and then load. Yes, I do check the flash hole for walnut but doubt it would block the flame.

I use a Lyman 1500 with autoflo. It's worth every penny and hasn't broken down. I size and deprime, than tumble in corn cob mixed with 2 capfuls of Nu-finish. The brass comes out looking brand new. Than I run clear the flash holes and prime and load

Well, are you tumbling wet or dry. If wet, the tumbler IMO must be at least 20 lb rated (a big one) For example, a 15lb rated Thumler Tumbler takes 5 lbs for media, 8 lb for water leaving only 2lb for brass (less than 200 .45 shells) VERY small capacity considering you have to run the thing for hours. I am mystified as to why they don't make for 20lb plus tumblers at an affordable price. (most are well over $500)

I use a frandford. Like a previous poster has said, its cheap and works well. Something I noticed however is that it doesn't work well with coarse corn cob sold by walmart.

Thanks for the suggestions. The only thing I've been able to find locally is the Lyman 1200. Not sure if that's what I want, so I'm still looking.

I'll look at the Habor Freight tumbler next time I'm there.

Any more suggestions or any local members want to chime in?
