WWB ammo going up 5% effective 6/1/08

Was on the M&P pistol forum and someone mentioned Winchester USA is increasing their ammo pricing by 5%. I haven't looked for citations or original articles, but I'm assuming it's true. Tack on another 90 cents for walmart WWB 100 ct....grrrrr.

Everything went up a month ago, too.

      Every supplier upped prices.

Reloading 9mm is not cost effective yet. It costs about 22 cents per bullet according to some shopping around I've done...and that's no including getting the equipment. I'd love to reload..I think it would be fun, in a sick way..but it's no where near time to start for 9mm.

Yeah, reloading sucks. We won't tell them either that you could reload 9mm for 4 or 5 cents a piece if you cast.

If you buy in bulk, you should be well under 22 cents each.

You can get quality bullets like FMJ Zeros for .067 each (based on 3K), then you get primers for .028 each (based on 5K), and powder is less than 1 cent each if you buy an 8lb keg... that would give you a total price of about ten cents each, since brass if free. Less than half of your calculations.

Those numbers also include hazmat and shipping. You could also buy more primers and powder without costing any more in hazmat, while at the same time only raising your shipping costs by just a little. If you did buy more, your per piece cost would drop even further. Not to mention saving even more by shooting plated or even lead (gulp) bullets

The initial investment of equipment is significant but if you shoot enough, you will recoup the initial costs in one to two years. At the component costs that I used above, you would only need to reload 15K of 9mm and you would more than pay for the equipment. Personally, I shoot about 800 - 900 rounds per month which warranted my reloading 9mm.

                I load 9mm for 6 cents a round.

Eta: that's with BUYING the bullets, not casting my own.
If I were casting, it would be around 3-4 cents depending on what a bucket of wheel weights cost me.

                  Reloading sounds better and better...
I'm going to have to break down I guess and start tooling up.
