    200 Grain 45 ACP SWC??

I recently got into reloading 45 ACP. The first batch of 500 was 200 grain FMJ RN the second batch of 500 was 200 grain lead RN. I was thinking about 200 Grain Lead SWC. What have been your guys experiences with Semi-wad cutter? I have a Kimber Custom II and I was wondering if SWC tend to feed reliably (also I use Chip mcormic 10 round power mags)?

    No problems

You shouldn't have any problems with 200 Grain SWC's with your Kimber!

    Good luck.

The barrel in your Kimber is throated so you should have "less" frequency of misfeeds. SWC bullets are notorious for feeding problems due to their shape, so don't expect you will never have problems shooting this bullet in your Kimber, or any gun for that matter. People who have not had a malfunction are in the minority. I too have a Custom II with feed ramp polished, and I use Wilson mags, even then I would get 1 failure to feed every once in a while, but I sure love the accuracy and the nice holes they punch in the paper...

If you run into feeding problems, try varying the OAL of the cartridge to see which will feed most reliably. Also try different recoil spring weights to speed up or slow down slide movement. These are fixes I've tried and I get much less FTFs now. Good luck.

The most important issue with using 200 SWC in .45acp is the overall length. The length should be 1.250 to 1.260. If you can run between 1.255 and 1.260 you should be GTG. Still need proper crimp, powder charge, etc. A common mistake I've seen in the past is someone gets what's called a 3-point jam. The cartridge gets stuck partially in the magazine, hitting the ramp and the roof of the chamber. The cure is to load a longer round, not shorter. Often a person tries a shorter load, and it doesn't cure the issue.

This is assuming the gun is in good condition, proper barrel to ramp relationship, magazines, extractor condition and setup.

        all the best,

        Mike
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

Loading 45 with Bullseye, and a 200gr SWC from Redline got me going for years.

The only minor thing was the red wax they have on the bullets tend to push up when seating the bullet and gummed up my dies.

Does anybody in the Huntington beach area have any SWC I can buy off them, say a 100 rounds. I just want to try them out before I buy 500.

Try buying from Kead Bullets in Texas (www.keadbullets.com). They've got pretty good prices on their bullets, cheap shipping, and they sell 100-bullet sample packs as well as boxes of 500 and 1000.

You'd almost think they'd reloaded before...

My Kimber Stainless Target II loves the 200g LSWC. Not a single feeding issue with these. When I slingshot the slide it feeds in one smooth push. Hardball ammo feels notchy, not smooth at all. It does feed the ball 100% as well. If they made lipstick in .45 I think it would feed that too.

This is my experience also. My milspec feeds 200gr SWC reloads without fail if I keep the OAL at 1.255 average.

They work great in both of my 1911's.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.
