    LNL AP Not Working?

I just set up my LNL AP yesterday to do .40SW (my first time reloading).

    The order is:

    1) Full size and deprime
    2) Case mouth expander
    3) Powder
    4) Bullet Seater
    5) Factory Crimp.

If I am doing one round at a time (aka one round on the plate, not adding one each time I pull the handle), everything works fine.

However, if I am seating a bullet in station #4...

    1) The case mouth barely expands.
    2) The full size only sizes about 2/3 the way down.
    3) Not too sure if the roll crimp is working right.

    How do I fix this?

One of the dies must be adjusted to low. Run a single shell through the press and see which station "completes its task" before the handle bottoms out on its downstroke.

Is your seating die adjusted too low causing over cam?

your dies arent set up right. One of them is probably too low so your shellplate cant push the brass all the way up into the expander die.

The roll crimp should be sublte, if existant at all. Just enough to remove the bell, thats it

I only have this problem, it seems, if I am SEATING a bullet. Otherwise everything is hunky dory.

If there is a projectile, the plate stops maybe 1/4 an inch before touching the dies.

For 40S&W it is not a roll crimp, it is a taper crimp (basically making the case straight again). It it looks anything like a roll crimp you have the die body way too deep.

              Ok perfect!

What about the lack of opening the case mouth and the problem sizing the die ~2/3 down?

It would appear you had the seating die in so deep, it was seating and crimping the bullet, thus halting the ram. That doesn't mean another die is also not out of adjustment, just that one was for sure.

Agree that your seating die may be too deep. Are you able to push the handle all the way to the end of the stroke while seating a bullet? If not, your die is too deep. In other words, take out the seating die and see if all other stations are able to "do their thing" without the die in station #4.

Well if I raise the die, how will I seat the bullet properly? The DIE itself doesn't hit the plate when I push the handle down... when I put a bullet in the case and push the handle up, the die still doesn't touch the plate...

It's almost like the BULLET DEPTH guide is the problem-- not the die

With an empty case in shell holder and at top of stroke, screw down seating die until it touches case. Back die out 1 turn and lock. Put a bullet in case and raise to top again. Screw down seater plug until it hits bullet. Back off case and turn down seater a little more and seat bullet. Measure and continue to move seater down until desired OAL.

                        Sounds right to me.

To the OP, where did you get that the seating die was supposed to touch the shellplate?

When I set up my LNL AP I set up each die one at a time with all of the other stations empty. I basically treated it like a single stage press during set up. This ensured everything was properly set-up and made it easy to add the remaining dies.

Run a case in each station when adjusting each die.
