Noob questions

Im new to reloading. Dad had a 550 when i was younger but i didnt learn much back then. So im starting out now on a xl650. I have a bunch of question, i'll updated this thred insted of starting a bunch of new ones.

Hopefully it will help others too. Feel free to thred jack and ask questions here, i dont mind! Thanx

Has any one used k bar cartridge or the brass extange for brass or golden west brass for bullets? And what did you like dislike?

What are you thoughts or recomendations on once fired casings?

Feel free to get into as much detail as you wish!

On brass, for me it depends on the caliber.

I don't bother with buying "once fired" brass for calibers like 10mm & .44RM and any bottle necked rifle (unless I see it come out of the box and onto the ground at the range). It should be noted that I don't load for auto-loading rifles, just bolt guns, so my brass consumption in these calibers is pretty tame.

I have had too many disappointments in the above calibers with "once fired". For the above handgun calibers, I buy new Starline from their online store for those calibers. For rifle I buy new Lapua or Hornaday. I would buy Winchester as well, but it always seems to be sold out when I am on buying rifle brass.

For 9mm, 40S&W and 45 Auto, I usually find more than I shoot of those each range trip. They tend to be "once fired" and last until I lose them. The one exception to the above rule is ranges where guys are loading major 9, those cases I don't pick up.

In general, once you get a decent stash, you will find your own way with brass.

You can tell sometimes with rifle if its once fired military primer crimp, I'm not picky with brass as long as it passes the visual and paper clip test ill load it, I mainly reload .223 and use a full length die. Most of my brass right now is LC

Load data of a similar bullet (i.e. jacketed, lead, etc.) and weight will work fine. Use start loads and work up slowly.
