Anyone actually use an IR thermometer to measure ammo temp to record difference in muzzle velocity/POI? If so what thermometer do you use? Just some cheapo fom Autozone?

I would say no because most people try to use a temp stable powder since you can't control the weather.
The barrel temp is more important. Good shooters log their dope. -
I do log my dope based on barrel temp, weather etc. And for the most part I try to keep my ammo in the shade but even if my pack with ammo in it heats up I would assume internal ballistics change. Question is whether the change is significant enough to measure and track....especially considering I'm limited to about 800 yds.Comment

It can cause pressure spikes, so I assume POI will change also. But I think the ammo would have to get above a 100* F for you to notice.se carga el diablo de la pistola...

Awesome thanks for sharing. Looks like it might be worth measuring, or at least fun to measure. I've got a cheapo IR thermometer, will start bringing it with me to the range.Pretty interesting results.
