Reloading Recipes For M1 Garand.

Just picked up a Garand and theres no way Im buying ammo for it at the current prices so Ill be reloading it.

Anyone care to share their recipe for 30-06 Springfield?

Be sure to buy an adjustable gas plug, if you're shooting ANYTHING other than military ball ammo through it.

Even so, it's good to have an adjustable gas plug. Takes stress off the op rod.

I'm not going to post my loads but I use Varget with 150gr FMJBT bullets in my Garand.

49gr of 4895 or 50gr of 4064 under a 147gr fmj-bt seated so that the case can be crimped into the cannelure are the "standard" garand loads for emulating the ball ammo that the sights are calibrated for.

I use 47grs of IMR4895 which is the powder that the rife was built around and a 147-150gr bullet with the primer of your choice.
Why don't you just use the CMP ammo?

I use 40grIMR 4895 and a 150gr FMJBT from honrandy. If you do load yourself keep in mind to use a hard primer like Winchester to prevent slamfires.

I just checked the CMP website. 200 rd can of Greek M2 ball is going for around $110 now (including shipping). Not nearly as reasonable as it used to be.....

The shipping went up awhile back. The price has been constant for several years. It is good ammo. I have about 7 cans of it in clips and some loose. Still the best deal going and safe for the old M1 Garand.

i just opened a box of 1k 150 gr. m80 bullets.... bought in 2003 from weidners....invoice inside.... 59.00 shipped... times sure are changing...reload now and wait for the panic to die down before buying bulk supplies...cheers...

I have 2 loads for my Garand. 46gr IMR4895 with 168gr Hornady Match HPBT bullets and 47gr IMR4895 with Hornady 150gr FMJ that have the cannelure. The 150s seem to shoot a bit better.

Right now I'm running 46 gr of IMR 4895 under a 152 gr round, HXP or LC brass and CCI #34 Primer. Seems to do pretty good.

I used to run 47 gr out in the desert, and was able to shoot out to 600 yds pretty accurately in sitting position. I think the milder temperatures here in New England affect the pressure curve of the powder load, dropping my rifle's optimal charge a grain.
