Herter's Super Model 3 Press

I found this old anchor in the garage with a bunch of old ammo, brass and gun parts. I really don't need it and figured maybe some kind of collectors might want it?

I don't have any shell holders or dies for it, what would this thing be worth? I could upload pics if needed, but it's in pretty good shape, just dusty.

It is an excellent press --
It does take a larger diameter shellholder, the same as Lachmiller, but an adapter is available to use modern button shellholders --
It will also accept the large diameter ( 1 1/2" ) dies for shotshell loading.
I think 50bmg dies are also that size.
I bought mine in about 1959 for about $12.95 and it still works fine - Likely my grandchildren will give it to their own grandchildren --

Funny, I just did a search on Herter's because a co-worker of mine just emptied his garage and put a Herter "Model-0-Super" in my cubicle. I looked it up; Herter's been out of business since 1981.

RCBS has an adapter for about $26.00 to allow you to use modern shell-plate holders. I'm not sure I really need a second single stage press at this time. My RCBS works just fine but I could see a place for it to load a specific caliber. If I were to look into something like a 308, then I'd set it up just for that rifle cartridge. I may set it up for things I don't shoot a whole lot of, such as 44 magnum.

I think the "o" press uses the threaded shellholders - I was not aware an adapter was available for it -- Nice to know -
In any event, it is a very good press. Just don't drop it on your toes --

I had a guy from another Site give me one that i use for sizeing only and bought the adapter for $25
I see them on evilbay all the time for $25-$100 depending on what they come with.

The shell holder unit is held in place by two set-screws. The tops is treaded for dies. Thing looks stronger than my RCBS. I may just take it home an refurbish it just for fun... and yeah, don't drop this on any part of your body unless you want that part to be as flat as a pancake!

well, i would not say it is stronger than your rcbs but it could be heavier--
While good presses, herters do not have as good a leverage as rcbs -- in my opinion -- i did mention mine is from 1960 and still going strong --
If you don't buy an adapter, keep in mind that lachmiller shellholders will interchange with herters -- not that they are available at walmart either.
