Sorry, another Dillon question

Ok, so I have my Dillon 650 set up and running great. After getting to know how the machine works everything seems to be working great.....till now. I have ran about 1200 rounds through it and on occasion I would get a sideway or an upside down primer. One in every 100 or so. Well I set out to run 500 after I found a nice IDPA load. I blew the machine out with canned air to remove any powder, filled the primer tube and started running it. Damn, 2 sideways primers in a row.
I noticed the shell plate did not line-up straight with the primer magazine. It looks like the edge of the primer is nicking the side of the shell plate on the way up and getting stuck sideways. I stopped everything, took the shellplate off and removed the primers. Everything is very clean but I cleaned it again.
I re-assembled it and cycled the machine by the lever, manually indexing the shellplate, primer magazine and the primer assembly still does not line-up.
I don't see any way of adjusting it. The shell plate indexes via a divet for the metal ball and the primer assembly does the same.

After I assembled everything I ran 200 rounds and got 13 sideways and 3 up-side primers. This sucks, I am sure I am doing something wrong. Thanks for your help, Sammy

It sounds like maybe part of the casting or machining on the shell plate base has been boogered on yours. I have never had anything like that happen on either of my 650's. I'm just gonna say to call Dillon, they do answer the phones and if there was anything that got out mis-manufactured, they probably know about it. Probably you should get ready to send it back.

Is there another press nearby that you can compare it to?

BTW, what primer size/caliber? is it just one caliber that does it?

I think the primer feed is the same on the 550.

Loosen the two screws on underneath that secure the primer feed by a half turn and remove the primer bar return spring. Push the lever forward into the Prime position (you'll have to help the priming ram into position), then re-tighten the screws. This should line up the primer bar with the shellplate.

Is your shellplate tightened properly? I know on my 550 things can get alittle weird if the shell plate is alittle too loose.

NO, the 650 uses a completely different primer feed.
There is a disk with a bunch of holes.
This disk rotates to bring the next primer under the case where the primer punch can push the primer up into the primer pocket.

What brand of primers?
CCI are notorious for this with their dome-shaped cups.
Stay with Winchester primers with flat cups.

I found the 2 screws below the shell plate had loosened up. I tightened them and now everything lines-up perfect!! Thanks for the help, Sammy

30Cal hit it on the nose! I have loaded so many rounds on the 550 that the spent primers filled a one gallon milk jug.
