Building Reloading Bench

Going to be building a reloading bench soon. Was wondering what height I should make the work area?

Do you guys mostly load standing up or sitting down? I am 6'1" so guessing I may like it a little on the tall side.

Just curious your guys thoughts on the height for my reloading bench.

I like to stand or sit on a tall stool. My bench is 43" tall. The handle on my Rockchucker is good for me. No leaning over or bending at the back. My scale is on a shelf over my bench at eye level.

I load standing up (probably a throwback to my bartending days ). I'm 5'10". My bench height is 40" and I have a riser mount on that raising the RockChucker another 8" above the bench. I have the scale set on the extension behind the riser.

Mine stands at 40.5in tall. It works both sitting and standing and is comfortable both ways.

6'-2", my bench top is at 42", but my loader/s is actually another 8" above that as it sits in a swivel vise.

Puts the handle at about chin height, no stooping. I load standing up too with a anti-fatigue mat which adds another 1" to my body height.

I load sitting, i couldnt imagine even a 2 hour session standing up.

anyway, heres some pics to motivate you:

From buying and cutting the wood at home depot to finished asembly took about 4 hours and about $100. Its incredibly sturdy.

I topped mine with that brown 1/4" masonite. It's very smooth on one side and rough on the other so it glues down really well and is almost indestructible. Cleans up easily and is not expensive. Underneath is 3/4" plywood glued/screwed together.

For bench height try this. Take your most used press and put it on a table at a lower height than you would like. Place the handle in the down position and walk up to it and grab the handle it should feel to low. Now, just raise the press by putting something under it while the handle is in the down stroke until the full down stroke is comfortable. That is the height for you.
