    Ammo Availability

Anyone have a crystal ball as to when supply will catch up to demand. Trying to find reloads or inexpensive 9mm is almost impossible. I have been told that reloads are not available due to the lack of components. I know this must hurt the suppliers as much as us shooters. They certainly don't make money if they don't have a product to sell.

In three months the stores will have ammo again. Always goes down like this. Patience is a virtue. The good news is since you now know what it's like to go through a drought you'll most likely stock up a bunch of ammo and not have to worry about it when this happens again.

It's unfortunate that some guys don't have ammo to shoot because some guys want 10k+ rounds hidden in their garage that they'll probably never use. Just the way it works I suppose.

I have more ammo than I'll ever shoot but what I've recently done is switched to shooting 22. Last week at the range I only shot 75 rounds of 22. I had a blast and spent under $5 on ammo.

With ammo so hard to find I just don't feel like burning though a hundred rounds of 223 on paper.

So my suggestion is too switch to 22 for the time being. I was just at Walmart three days ago and they had a ton of bulk 22 packs.

    Good luck.

      So, you're one those guys?

Good suggestion on the .22. I thought about getting one right before all the craziness happened. I guess I will wait a bit longer.

Regarding 9mm ammo, it's not that hard to find online. I have 2K rounds on the way, ordered on 1/14 and 1/16. Sure, it cost a bit more, but it wasn't that bad, and I didn't even have to wait that long for it.

I work for a company that Makes the ammo that is then branded and sold to Mil/LEO/Public... they didn't see this coming but have been ramping up production (Production = profits). But they also see this as a panic so they are not paying overtime or laying on new shifts. The ammo will return and MSRP willl go back to a "reasonable" price. Those who are panic buying now will be shooting $1.00 + round steel case rounds at paper in 6 months. Relax, take a breath, and backorders will catch up. Next time, lay in a 6 month supply at fair market so you can weather the storm.

Cabelas. I got 1K of S&B 9mm 115gr FMJ for $339.75 shipped (have shot it before, a bit dirty, but okay), and 1K of Herters Select Grade (never shot it, seems like it has okay reviews) for $304.75 shipped.

They do have Herters in stock still, it appears, but no more S&B 9mm.

Glad I could stock up for all of the training that I am signed up for through June, and not have to freak out when the training dates come around.

I thouht reload 9mm was going for around $210 /k at the gun shows? I haven't looked myself, just what I read.

It was around 160 or 170 about a year ago so that seemed pretty decent.

I thought it was all rumors, because 2 weeks ago I went to wal-mart and had plenty of ammo. But went today and guess what 3 Wal-marts and ALL SOLD OUT!!!! even .22lr were sold out!!. only rounds that were left are 30-06, 308, 7mm, 16ga, 20ga and 410... people really got to calm down and let this blow over.

I have enough of my reloaded calibers but have recently been shooting mostly 22 until the ammo/component inventory replenishes itself but now I'm about out of 22's and can't seem to track it down. Our walmart has been out of .22's for what seems like months. I had a chance to get some at Big 5 a few weeks ago but was not wanting to pay $38.99 for a bulk box and decided to take the gamble and find it else where. I should have boughten it. I think I might brave the Costa Mesa gun show crowds in hopes of finding some bulk 22 boxes.

The wal-mart employee told me they are back order for 3-5 months. I couldn't understand him, because he mumbled it. I was thinking of going to the costa mesa gun show, but its going to be way way to crowded. I think someone will get followed and jacked for there ammo. So keep your eyes and ears opened.

was working on my inventory today from prior prep days; found around 2,500 rounds of .223; never owned a .223; guess I was sure I was going to buy one or was going to use it for barter. Go figure. Found 500 round boxes of .22 long rilfe that I paid $8.99. I guess I am getting old enough now to talk about "the good old days"

If anyone in OC needs 9MM factory or re-loads, there is a range that I frequent that has plenty for sale.
