    LAX Reloads?

I tried some LAX 40s&w 180grain FP plated reloads today. Each round had quite a kick. The the gun that was used was a glock 23. Every 3rd round, the slide would lock back. The slide locking back happened on 4 different mags. As for the round ,The O.A.L, was 1.125", the mouth crimp was .419". I use a taper crimp on my 40s&w reloads, however the LAX used a roll crimp. Could this be the reason for the extra pressure and slide release issues? They also had a huge muzzle flash.

Next I used a XD40; no issues with the slide locking back but the still kicked more than a .45 ACP

Just wanted to know if anyone had the same issues.

    Thanks everyone,

I tried 10 rounds out of my 1911 .45ACP that my nephew bought back in December. It had quite a kick too but it shot horribly. Like you, my reloads are only taper crimp ( 5.6 gr. Unique behind a 230 gr. hard-cast) and my reloads shoot fine for plinking. I didn't note if the LAX were crimped. As a sanity check, my newphew's best friend fired some from his 1911 and concluded the LAX ammo wasn't quite right; my nephew donated the left overs to the shooting range.

40 generally does seem to have more of a kick than 45, but it may be partially due to gun weight. But I don't see it as being strange either way. As far as slide lock on a mag with rounds still in it, I think that has to be a gun issue. I can't see how ammo would cause that. And LAX reloads? We don't know what kind of powder they're using or how much, or how consistent the charge is. I remember testing my home loads vs theirs (in 9mm) and theirs was hard and snappy.

My experience with them in 9mm was that yup, they were hard and snappy. I'm no expert but it felt like when I use 4.2grn of bullseye or something.

I'm not particularly good shooting that type of load. They functioned fine.

I've heard that LAX reloads were on the hot side

I'm currently using the LAX 40sw reloads (180 gr plated FP) for plinking with my HK USPs. They are on the hot side but that's how I like them. It shoots pretty accurate (up to 25 yards) out of my full size USP40 and never had a problem with them; no misfeeds, jams, FTE or FTF. I'm not set up to reload 40sw so I always pickup a case of 500 or 1K at the shows.

I think it was November when I last bought 40 S&W LAX reloads in their parking lot. Shot that in my first Glock 23 outing. 10 rounds out of 100 didn't fire. Primers hit, just no bang. Right after afterwards, I shot 100 Winchester & 100 Federal ...everyone of them went bang. Maybe I just got a bad batch from LAX.

The last time I was at LAX, I bought a few hundred rounds of their reloaded 357. It wouldnt even go into the cylinder of my 686.

I exchanged them and the guy just gave me a few boxes of Fiochi instead.

The 40's from my G23 were okay. But, unless I had to, I am not sure I would buy their stuff again.
