    Help with AA hulls

My crimps don't fold over all the way when I use once fired AA hulls. I have some old 1990's AA hulls, and they work fine, and the gun clubs fold over just fine...

Using a mec progressive loader, 1 1/8 oz #8 shot, AA wads and wst powder.

    Any hints?

The newer AA hulls have less volume in them than before, certainly less than Remington hulls. The hulls are a little shorter so there is less hull above the crimp line to close the hole. After the pre-crimp, you should have a hole about the size of a pencil eraser. If you bring your pre crimp down a little, you will close up that hole, but it will cause swirls if you use other hulls.

The best thing to do is to stay consistent with your hulls. That way you don't have to keep adjusting your press.

I would raise the wad up slightly. That will solve the problem in the last picture & the gap.

I had the same exact problem! My solution back then was to go to a overshot card. This one.>> http://www.midwayusa.com/product/188...ick-bag-of-500

Funny thing is at that time I was using Clay Buster wads that were just like the WWAA12 wad. When I swiched back to original Winchester wads, the problem went away and the crimp was perfect! The wads side by side looked the same. Who knows...

rockets got it right. Although I would add that you should get a manual from the MEC website and see that you can adjust the crimp by moving that stations adjustment in very small increments, up or down depending upon what the issue is. The manual shows pictures of both too much and too little crimp as examples. If that is not enough, simply call MEC, they are very friendly and exceptionally good at letting you know what the issue is and how to fix it. Be prepared to make some mistakes in the adjustment as it's not really easy, but no too difficult once you get it, it's a matter of trial and error mostly.
