I normally use CC450 primers for my .223 loads for my AR, but everywhere i have looked is out of stock. I am considering trying Remington primers. Would you recommend 6 1/2 or 7 1/2 as a substitute?

Primer Question
"...... to disarm the people - that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." - George Mason -Tags: None -
The 6 1/2 would be best for a AR used for plinking and such. If you are into precision then the 7 1/2 are Bench Rest rated. I think that means the 7 1/2 are a little softer cup.May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am -
Thanks, im looking for a slightly harder cup, something that would compare to the CCI450"...... to disarm the people - that was the best and most effectual way to enslave them." - George Mason -Comment

I hand load for High Power matches and use CCI 400s without issue. I've also used Winchester primers in the past. I don't really think it makes that much of a difference, but then again I may just not be good enough where it makes a difference.Comment

6 1/2 Remington primers "ARE NOT" recommended for use with .223 ammo. It even says so right on the box of primers. The 7 1/2 primers "ARE" safe to use with .223 loads.Cowboy Action Shooter

I believe you have this reversed, the Remington 7 1/2 have a thicker cup and are more compatible to the CCI450...
