    Try about 22-24 gr.

I use 25 gr h335 under 55gr FMJBT and easily pinged steel at 600 yds in a 20" A2 config when I lived out in CA. I think you'll want to be slightly less at 62 gr.

Look for Sierra's load data for AR-15

Mine is 25grs. H335 with CCI small rifle magnum primer. OAL 2.245". Mind you that 25grs. H335 is max load per Speer manual. Try 24grs. first.

From IMR's site for .223 Remington. Does not include hotter 5.56x45 data:
        62 GR. SFT SCIR Hodgdon H335 .224" 2.260"
        Min: 19.3 2678 47,500 PSI
        Max: 21.4 2887 53,600 PSI

Will standard primers work ok with this load? that's all I have.

Why not go to the Hodgdon website and use the .223 load data for H335 and say the 63gr SMK's? Use the start load and work up in half gr increments to the max and watch for signs of pressure (flattened primers, etc.) Just another approach.

I did look there first, just though I would see what others were using for 62gr.
                Thanks Richard

You can use the 63gr Sierra load just below it, it will work fine.

                    I'm loading 62's with WC844, which measures like H335.

For 5.56mm loads (not .223 Rem), I'm using 25.5 grains of WC844 with a 62 grain SS109 bullet and CCI #41 primer for 3050 FPS. Velocity is as per military loading reference. Brass is LC, trimmed to 1.750".

                    For 55 grain FMJ's, I'm using 28 grains of WC844 for 3250 FPS.

The military load handbook shows both of these loads / velocities still at or under the .223 REM pressure maximum of 55000 PSI and well under the 5.56mm max pressure of 62500 PSI.
